The US has launched an air strike against members of a suspected al-Qaeda cell in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The targets were reported to have been tracked by aerial reconnaissance and then attacked by a US gunship based on a US military base near Djibouti.
The US believes that the members of al-Qaeda held responsible by for the 1998 bombings of US embassies in East Africa have been hiding in Somalia.
But military sources gave no indication whether the attacks were successful.
The attack was carried out by an Air Force AC-130, a heavily-armed gunship that can work under the cover of darkness.
Somalia's capital is in a state of turmoil after Ethiopian troops, backing transitional government soldiers, forced Islamist fighters to abandon Mogadishu which they had controlled for six months.
The BBC's Adam Mynott, in Nairobi, said that the attack seemed to be an opportunistic attempt by the US to destroy an al-Qaeda cell that they had been tracking for some time.
The cell is believed to be behind the 1998 bombings of the US embassies in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and Dar Es Salaam, in Tanzania.
More than 250 people died in the two attacks.
The US also hold the same group responsible for an attack on an Israeli-owned hotel in Kenya in 2002, in which 15 people died.
On Wednesday the US State Department said it had deployed navy vessels off the country's coast to ensure that al-Qaeda operatives did not flee the country.BY BBC

I blame for the Wahabi cult and their ally, the American government. I protest to the world in the name of Somalia to stop bombing my place of birth. This will only help the cult Wahabists and would not deter them from anything.
Somalis: it's time to see the light, we don't need this.
The evil regime of Bush and Blair are working on another playground to chase the Wahabists. Let's not give that to them. Where are the Somali nationalists? We don't need the international enemies in Somalia to kill Somalis on both sides. I say let's go back to boards and deal with Hawiye, Darood, Isaaq wars and deal with it this foreign attacks, or you can kiss goodbye to Somalia. It will become international third front.

How sad and pathetic has the situation in Somalia come too..
We spilled our blood for 16yrs in the confusion of who is who , now weak and ever fragmented..an opportunity for our enemies to come in and spill more blood..
well may allah rest the souls of those innocent people, may allah ease the hardship and trauma of those still enduring this madness..amiin

No surprise there.
If we can't take care of our mess, why should we expect others to take care of it for us? Is USA really wrong to bomb Al’qaeda whom I know are in the country probable playing cat and mouse games. These people don’t care about us and quite frankly I don’t blame them, after all who is there to stop them. What was that saying again.. “You Made Your Bed Now Lie in It”- yes perfect for this type of predicament. Trouble is Somalis never seem to learn from their errors.
Somalia is and will always be a save heaven for thugs and this is because we have let it happen. We have welcomes our enemies with welcoming arms thinking they will be the cure to our problems – Yeah rite! We shall see how they will take this vulnerable time to their advantage.

Gantaal I get what you’re saying but why are there foreign people in our country? My aunt in muqdisho swore she had seen Pakistani people walking across the street from her and when she asked other people what they were doing there, they had said that they are one of many who had come to participate in the jihad.
I mean honestly we have enough problems as it is, do we need Sudanese people and Pakis fighting our battles. Do we need them to tell us to bomb our cars or to kill our fellow Somalis, not really no. They should fight their enemies in their own country and not drag us into their mess. They are in our country no ifs and buts about it. and to my understanding it was the ICU who invited them.

Hasna there might be some few Muslim brothers who are convinced that they should help their fellow Muslim brothers to fight injustices, hence a religious duty. Having said that it does not mean each and every foreign, bearded muslim is in Mogadisho to fight or is a jihaadist. From what I heard there were many Oromos, Zanzibaries, Palestinian, Iraqis and even Pakistanies who some of them were doing business with their Somali brother and others were refugees who saw life in Mogadisho was far more better than their own countries. Just read the following link they picked cuulimo who were on tabliykh mission from a mosque in Mogadisho and they will soon anounce they have cuptured foreign terrorist.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind muslims people living in somalia as long as they behave themselves. All am saying is the jihadists are not helping the situation it is like (honey to the bees) am sure we don't need a battle between them and USA taking place on our soil.
